Residence Permit in Greece

If you have a regular and solid income and you want to get a second citizenship, to buy real estate or just to live in Greece, as well as to move freely across the EU countries, then a Greek residence permit card is what you need.

To apply for a residence permit, you do not need to purchase local property – renting some accommodation in Greece will be enough.

Benefits of residence permit in Greece:

  • A visa-free access to all EU countries
  • A residence permit granted to both the main applicant and his family (a spouse and underage children) for two years with an option to extend
  • The right to apply for a Greek citizenship after 7 years of permanent residence
  • Being allowed not to live in Greece and not to be a tax resident
  • Being eligible for education, real estate purchases and business activities (for the applicant and all members of his family in the EU countries)

Application documents and residence permit requirements

  • Proof of the sufficient income or current funds for living expenses in Greece for a year (minimum €24,000 per applicant and €4,800 for each family member)
  • Statement of medical examination
  • Health Insurance Policy for all applicants

You may be requested to provide any other document to proof your reliability. In most cases an interview is expected.

You are not obliged to spend a specific amount of time in Greece.

Application process

The entire application process takes 3-4 months. There are actually two stages:

  • National Visa (Type D) in a home country (1 month or more)
  • A residence permit in Greece (2-3 months)
