Residence permit and its benefits

  • You do not need to permanently stay in France for 5 consecutive years of your residence permit period. You have just to come to France twice a year to renew documents and get a residence permit card.
  • The first 5 residence permits are valid for 1 year and are extended upon expiration.
  • Children under the age of 13 receive a residence permit for 5 years straight away. If the child is 14 years old, they receive a residence permit for 4 years. If the child is 15 years old, the residence permit is given for 3 years, and so on.
  • Having lived in France for more than 5 years, you and your family will be able to apply for permanent residence for a 10 year period.

Required documents:

  • A valid passport
  • A birth certificate, a marriage certificate (if any)
  • A medical insurance
  • A bank statement (40 000 EUR plus 20 000 EUR per family member)
  • A school certificate for children under 18 and an invitation from the French school (if required)
  • Available accommodation or residence in France (a property contract or a tenancy agreement)
