Residence Permit in Belgium

If you have a regular and solid income and you want to get a second citizenship, to buy real estate or just to live in Belgium, as well as to move freely across the EU countries, then a Belgian residence permit card is what you need.

Residence permit in Belgium is issued by the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs at the place of the applicant’s registration. It allows a non-EU citizen to live in Belgium 365 consecutive days a year.

A residence permit is issued for one year with an option to extend. After 5 years, you become eligible to apply for a permanent residence permit and afterwards for a citizenship.

Application documents and residence permit requirements

  • Proof of the sufficient income or current funds for living expenses in Greece for a year (minimum € 20 000 per applicant and dependant over 18)
  • Other proofs of your financial reliability, for example, stocks, bonds, renting contracts, etc.
  • Grounds for acquiring a residence permit in Belgium

You may be requested to provide any other document to proof your reliability. In most cases an interview is expected.

Application process

The entire application process may take 2-6 months.

You need to prepare all the necessary documents in the home country and in Belgium.

Then you apply for a national visa (type D) issued by the Belgian embassy in your home country. When you arrive in Belgium, you apply for a residence permit issued by the municipal authority in your place of residence. From this moment on you are considered to be a Belgian legal resident.

If you are traveling with your spouse and children, the application documents are submitted both for you and your dependants.

Within 3-5 months you and your family will receive a residence permit.
